About Us

Founded in 1988 as a not-for-profit organization, Hellenic Scientific Society for the Study of AIDS & Sexually Transmitted Diseases (acronym: EEEEAIDS), had as its main goal to contribute to the study and research of the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), viral hepatitis and sexually transmitted diseases.

During 2020, EEEEAIDS was renamed to Hellenic Scientific Society for the Study of AIDS, Sexually Transmitted and Emerging Diseases, and expanded the scope of its research activity to include emerging diseases, like airborne diseases and COVID-19, particularly in populations at high risk of transmission.

To achieve this goal, the following are mainly used as means:

  1. Organizing seminars, conferences, lectures and other national or international events.
  2. Undertaking, supporting and implementating research programmes.
  3. Operating a research lab and biobank for its research.
  4. Publishing information material related to its scientific work.
  5. Cooperating with other national and international scientific Societies, NGOs, Authorities and organizations under public or private law.
  6. Addressing public health information to the general public and competent Authorities via presentations, representations, interventions, suggestions and press release.
  7. Assisting in research activity of public Laboratories and Hospitals, by providing programmes, equipment and staff.

Research lab and Biobank

EEEEAIDS operates research laboratory and biobank.

 

Administration

EEEEAIDS is governed by a seven-member Executive Committee which is elected every three years.  The current Executive Committee consists of the following members:
